New York, New York.

I suspect this might be a lengthy entry as I need a bit of a rant!
After being up for 17 1/2 hours straight now its got to be said I'm feeling a little worse for wear! I have already managed to achieve an impressive set of bruises on my right shoulder, but on the plus side, my back is alright and my feet feel fine :)

You know I hoped my flight would go smoothly... well... not exactly. Despite arriving 3 hours early for my flight, the queues were so long that I only just made it down to the departure lounge in time to board! Luckily my plane was delayed, so there wasn't any running through the airport involved. In between watching Precious (brilliant but awful at the same time) and some US tv show about making cakes, I took these photos:

(thats not cloud.... thats ice on the water as we passed Greenland)

(Canada... just for Mel :p )

So, on arrival at Newark Liberty I was greeted by possibly the most bolshy airline official I have ever been unfortunate enough to encounter.... and then... at customs.... well when I said I was stopping for 80 days he remarked 'did I hear you right? eight oh?' then proceeded to give me the spanish inquisition. I have never felt so guilty for visiting a country before! Eeep. Once that ordeal was over, time to catch the AirRail to the train station. Except that the AirRail had broken down. Que lots of confused foreigners and lots of grumpy people from New Jersey barking directions in an accent that I couldnt understand!!
Eventually I got my train to Penn NY station (I could have listened to the conductor say Secaucus all day long, it was hilarious), then fumbled my way through the subway system with the help of some incredibly friendly New Yorkers and got to the hostel. Its awesome, in a pretty interesting part of Brooklyn (think Shoreditch, London), full of vintage shops and vegan cafes.
I'm gonna venture out after this and find something to eat I think, they looked pretty tasty.

And finally, to the last disaster of the day. My mobile phone doesn't seem to be working and I have no idea why. It claims to work in the US, it has a card suitable for use in the US in it. But does it work? Hell no! Ah well, I'll sort something out soon I hope, and until then, I'll try to keep this updated with all the mundane stuff I would otherwise text!

Love you all
xxxx
