Today after about 350 miles we entered South Carolina and the real South. We may have crossed the Mason-Dixon line 2 days ago but it wasn't until today we properly got to the South you see in the movies. I can't count the amount of times someone has said "y'all" today. There was even a man who tipped his hat to us in the street randomly and asked if we were well, then followed up with 'Well then, y'all have a good day and come back soon". Just a RANDOM man. . There was another lovely old man in the tourist information who chatted to us for 20 mins, we just couldn't get away. He told us all about Charleston and speaking 'Charlsetonian', which is like gullah but even harder to understand.
We took a horse and cart tour around Charleston in the afternoon, and the guy kept saying "we ain't got no" all the time, it was hilarious and endearing all at the same time. Charleston is a beautiful little town, pretty old by american terms and full of mansions and english-style terraces.
There are lots of photos, but the internet is being a bit of a pain at the moment, so I'll try again later on or just show you when I get home :)
love you
