Orlando, Panama City (Florida), Alabama, Mississipi and New Orleans (Louisiana)

A quick update for you from the past couple of days...

After the Keys we headed up the coast again to Orlando where we stayed for two nights. I have lots of photos but  not enough time to upload them so I'll just tell you all about it instead! First night there we went down to Downtown Disney. It was tacky and neon and everything I expected of Disney, but also a lot of fun to just wander round and look at all the stuff. The next day, we betrayed Disney and spent the day at Universal Studios.

Everyone was so completely shattered after the day at Universal that we all went to bed at 8.30pm, how very rock 'n' roll ey?

On Wed we had a really long drive day up to Panama City, it was just a stopover place but the campsite was just across the road from a lovely white sandy beach. We had a close encounter with a jellyfish but other than that the sea was wonderful.

Today then brought another drive day as we finally said goodbye to Florida (the 'Sunshine State' that rained on us every day but one), crossed Alabama and then Mississippi and wound up in Louisiana. New Orleans is definitely the most culturally unusual place we've been on tour so far. Its so run down and poor, it is still showing signs of the devastation of hurricane Katrina, and is (to be honest, but please dont worry) quite a dangerous place to be. But its so interesting, its such a clash of cultures between the British and Carribean, creating its own New Orleans cajun style that permeates the city. Our hotel is amazing, partly because we have real beds and an actual bathroom of our very own, and partly because Katie and I are in a room that seems to be have been a stable block once. Suzanne, you would love it.

Yes... we have a BIRDCAGE on our mantelpiece.

So... I'm about to go out now, so I'll have to go, but I'll update you again before I leave New Orleans, or when we get to Lake Charles :)

love you all
xxxxx

  1. Hi Catherine!

Was so nice to hear from you this afternoon. I have your number saved so it came up as you, i was just a little shocked (in a good way)/slightly concerned when i saw you ringing me in the middle of the afternoon. Once you started talking though i realised i should not be a div and that you were fine. I can't help it i guess though i am just your big sis :) I was so chuffed the rest of the afternoon after your call!

Hope the boat trip was fun. Can't wait to see all your photos and hear all about it once your back.

Lots and lots and lots of love,

    Helen xxxxxxxxx
