Our second day in Key West is nearly over now, it's the southernmost point of continental USA, only 90 miles from Cuba and on the same latitudinal line as The Bahamas, Mexico and Saudi Arabia. It is HOT.
We had a pretty long drive down from South Beach, arriving in Key West at about 4pm and putting our camp up among the palm trees....
After that was our sunset cruise. The only thing was, it was cloudy, and we actually missed the sunset. But everyone had a good time anyway!
Today Katie H, Lynsey, Moonroe and I went snorkeling at the reef and saw lots of pretty fish and coral, but I cant show you those photos yet as they're on a film disposable camera. Another trip to the beach happened in the afternoon and then we came back to camp. The idea had been to then go back into Key West town and watch the sunset at the sunset festival, but then the rain came. We're not talking drizzle, we're talking proper tropical storm.
We were a bit afraid we were going to lose our tents as the palm trees were bending and loosing branches a lot, we'd abandoned them and moved to the communal games room where we couldn't see them so it was a relief when, as it turned out, no tents took off. They did get flooded, so we've just finished mopping them up and drying out our sleeping bags. Fingers crossed this is the last storm we encounter when we're camping!
Love you all lots,
xxxxx

Yeah it's very comon to have storm like this around there. even back home in N.B we have storm that last for an hour or two with hail and thunder lightning and all! it can be quite scary. immagine a hurricane.. we always get the tail from it and it can be damaging. and the rain just pour door and you're like wooaahhh!!! hehehe
ReplyDeleteHope you guyz will be fine, going by texas!
Thank you for the update¬ interesting! and quite admire you for being so far! hehe
xo! take care!
Wow, you should be back in GB, no rain for all of 6 days, just heat haze, sun and early morning mist before it breaks out to pretty fair days. Monday was a great day, we went off to Whitby to find Ollyswood the trees that John & Kate dedicated to Olly; abeautiful tranquil valley bathed in sunshine, golden sandstone, and Spring flowers. We went all the way topless, Cathy was complaining about a cold nose by the time we arrived home at 9-30, (she's a wimp. You make sure you air your bedding well that tropical rain can be rather wet - not like good old blighty rain which is relatively dry!! Great photos can I see a tan or atleast a rosey glow?
ReplyDeleteTake care, have fun, but I really think you should be cycling the route.
Cheers Fran, Cathy, Tobs.

Lovely to read your blog and we are all enjoying following your trip. The weather has been lovely for the past few days, so it has been nice to actually go out in the garden and relax. Grandma, Gran and Grandad send their love and they are really keen to hear about your trip. I (Suzanne) have finally organised a map to follow you. I blew the map saved on the laptop up to A3 and with your handy skills of gimp i rewrote the words so they wearn't pixilised. Missing you but hope your still having fun.
ReplyDeleteLots and lots of love Mum, Dad and Suzanne. xxxxxxx
I will chime in and repeat what everyone else said, the weather here has been really nice! And still I've developed another stinking snotty cold (it's borderline man-flu).
ReplyDeleteDid you have any key lime pie or whatever it's called? I thought I heard that was from the Keys, or did I imagine it??
